on the road again...

we're finally on our way. we got a really late start but the trip has been fabulous so far. wednesday and thursday were spent driving through west texas and new mexico. it was totally barren and desolate, but in my book, that's gorgeous. and it was nice to see some hills for once! thursday we arrived in carlsbad and walked through the caverns. it was unbelievable. i tried out my new nikon d80 but it's slim pickins taking pictures in a cold, dark cave. we stayed the night in albuquerque and yesterday we made it through the rest of new mexico, into the mountains and crazy rock formations. it's outrageous, i've never seen anything like it. we crossed over to arizona yesterday afternoon and on a whim we stopped at the petrified national forest. i didn't realize we were in the middle of the painted desert, so i was pleasantly surprised. well...i don't know if that conveys the right emotion, i was in utter shock really. it's easily the most beautiful place i've ever been, and i get around. i think i took about 200 pictures haha. anyway now we're at the grand canyon and we're about to leave the hotel (and our wonderful wifi). i think tonight we'll be in las vegas and then...berkeley! haha i'm only about 2 weeks late. it's been bittersweet leaving texas and all of the southwest behind me, but i'm ready for this new adventure. that and i miss megan desperately! it's been a rough summer without my partner in crime.

anyway i've got millions of pictures to show. they're not great because i was a little too impatient to study my manual, but they at least serve as a record of this crazy trip.
